The Roadmap was commissioned by the Australian Red Cross to assess whether Forecast-based Financing can be integrated into the Solomon Islands existing disaster financing methods. Amanda Amjadali, ClimateABILITY’s Director, in her former role as co-Director of PSS, worked along other consultants to produce the Roadmap, with Amanda’s team utilising their climate science expertise and their previous work on developing the National Drought Policy for Solomon Islands.
The Roadmap focused on drought in Solomon Islands, and on the existing strengths and capacities of Solomon Islands Red Cross (SIRC) in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and health programming. It sets out recommendations to inform the potential development of a pilot in Solomon Islands and also the future expansion of FbF in the Pacific. Red Cross will use this Roadmap to inform and contribute to its ongoing efforts to institutionalise FbF in national and regional programmes and processes.
